Si tratta del mio secondo disegno a matita.

Risale alle mie vacanze estive del 1988.

Si tratta di frutti dall'aspetto curioso, dal gusto generoso e ricchi di proprietà.

Che siano buoni, che facciano bene, è risaputo, ma che l'ananas sia anche un simbolo di benvenuto e si carichi di significati che vanno ben oltre la tavola, è una storia tutta da raccontare.

Non è raro trovare l'ananas all'ingresso di case signorili, come elemento architettonico di fontane o nella pubblicità di hotel. Il simbolo dell'ananas però varia a seconda che ci si trovi al di qua o al di là dell'Oceano Atlantico e la sua storia si basa su leggende piuttosto verosimili.

Le storie più affascinanti legate a questo frutto sono quelle che lo hanno reso un simbolo di ospitalità e che sono nate oltreoceano. Si narra che i capitani di ritorno da lunghe spedizioni per mare, usavano infilzare uno di questi frutti all'ingresso della propria casa. In tal modo segnalavano il loro ritorno dalla loro avventura, invitando amici e conoscenti a condividere la gioia del momento.

Da lì, soprattutto nelle zone corrispondenti alle prime colonie europee nel territorio del Nord America, il simbolo dell'ananas ha iniziato a proliferare come bassorilievo sugli stipiti dei cancelli di ingresso di tenute e coltivazioni, sui battenti delle porte di ingresso, come terminale dei passamano delle scale, sulle colonne di letti a baldacchino o semplicemente, in forma di frutta fresca, come centrotavola durante le festività.

Nonostante la simbologia dell'ananas abbia mille sfaccettature, l'accezione universalmente condivisa è proprio quella che ha fatto di questo frutto un simbolo di benvenuto.

Io spero che sia stato, seppur in modo inconsapevole, di buon auspicio per la mia attività di disegno.

These are fruits with a curious appearance, a generous taste and rich in properties.

It is well known that they are good, that they are good for you, but that the pineapple is also a symbol of welcome and is full of meanings that go far beyond the table, is a story to be told.

It is not uncommon to find pineapples at the entrances of stately homes, as an architectural element of fountains or in hotel advertising. However, the symbol of the pineapple varies depending on whether you are on this side or the other of the Atlantic Ocean and its history is based on rather plausible legends.

The most fascinating stories linked to this fruit are those that have made it a symbol of hospitality and which were born overseas. It is said that captains returning from long sea expeditions used to skewer one of these fruits at the entrance to their homes. In this way they signaled their return from their adventure, inviting friends and acquaintances to share the joy of the moment.

From there, especially in the areas corresponding to the first European colonies in the territory of North America, the pineapple symbol began to proliferate as a bas-relief on the jambs of the entrance gates of estates and crops, on the doors of the entrance doors, as the terminal of the handrails of the stairs, on the columns of four-poster beds or simply, in the form of fresh fruit, as a centerpiece during the holidays.

Although the symbolism of the pineapple has a thousand facets, the universally shared meaning is precisely the one that has made this fruit a symbol of welcome.

I hope that it was, albeit unconsciously, a good omen for my drawing activity.
