Omaggio a Matisse, il pittore che aveva un debole per i gatti – Tribute to Matisse, the painter who had a weakness for cats

Henri Matisse, artista francese era un pittore appassionato di viaggi , a quell’epoca come molti artisti visitava le terre lontane ed esotiche, delle quali riproduceva le suggestioni e i profumi sulle sue tele.

Henry Matisse, french artist, was a painter passionated about travels, at that time, like many other artists, visited far and exotic lands, of which reproduced the suggestions and the perfumes on his canvases.

Inoltre, come tantissime persone dei nostri giorni, egli aveva anche una grande passione per i gatti.

Furthermore, as so many people of today, he also had a great passion for cats.

Matisse incontrava spesso il grande pittore Picasso, artista con il quale, nonostante fosse più anziano di lui , aveva un rapporto di rivalità ma anche di rispetto.

Tutto ciò permise ad entrambi di crescere e di sviluppare un legame molto profondo, tanto che si dice che quando Matisse morì, Picasso non trovò la forza per recarsi al suo funerale, ma preferì chiudersi in casa in completa solitudine.

All this allowed both of them to grow and to develop a very deep bond, so much so that it seems that whem Matisse died, Picasso did not find the strenght to go to the funeral but preferred to shut himself up at home in complete loneliness.

Matisse faceva parte del famoso gruppo di artisti di quel tempo chiamati “Fauves” (bestie, bestie selvagge).

Matisse was part of the famous group of artists of the time called “Fauves” (beasts, wild beasts).

Il soprannome fu dato a questo movimento di artisti in quanto usavano i colori in maniera “potente” distaccando i loro dipinti dall’effettiva realtà nell’espressione del loro stato d’animo.

The nickname was given to this movement of artists as they used colors in a “Powerful” way, detaching their paintings from the actual reality in the expression of their mood.
