PROFILO DELL’ARTISTA FILIPPO MAMMANA: IL VIAGGIO TRA LOGICA E SOGNO

“Per anni ho insegnato a calcolare la rotta per evitare il rischio; oggi, davanti alla tela, cerco deliberatamente quel rischio per trasformare la realtà in un sogno”.

BIOGRAFIA: TRA IL MARE E IL CALCOLO

Nato l’11 giugno 1957 a Regalbuto(EN). Ha vissuto a Catania, la sua vita è stata un costante dialogo tra la precisione scientifica e la libertà dell’arte. Autodidatta per vocazione, è cresciuto respirando l’arte figurativa, grazie ai suoi genitori.

La pittura ad olio è stata così un linguaggio appreso in famiglia e coltivato fin dall’infanzia, mantenendosi come un percorso parallelo durante la sua carriera professionale.

Diplomato all’istituto nautico “Duca degli Abruzzi” di Catania, conseguendo il titolo di “aspirante al comando di navi mercantili”.

In seguito ha conseguito il diploma di laurea in Ingegneria Civile, sezione edile, presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania e successivamente abilitato alla professione di ingegnere.

La sua passione per il mare e per la pittura hanno caratterizzato tutto l’arco della sua vita.

Dopo aver lavorato per alcuni anni come libero professionista, ha ottenuto la cattedra come docente di navigazione e di tutte le materie affini presso gli storici Istituti Nautici Siciliani, in particolare nell’Istituto "Caio Duilio" di Messina, Istituto Nautico "Luigi Rizzo" di Riposto e successivamente ha concluso la sua carriera all’Istituto Nautico "Duca degli Abruzzi" di Catania.

Gli anni trascorsi in questi Istituti hanno strutturato la sua mente verso il rigore, la prospettiva e le leggi della Fisica.

Nell’ambito scolastico, oltre all’insegnamento, è stato incaricato di svolgere il lavoro di organizzatore di eventi e di viaggi, incarico motivato dalla sua attitudine alle relazioni pubbliche e alla passione per organizzare gruppi di persone, per il raggiungimento di un obiettivo.

I 18 mesi d'imbarco sulla corvetta “Aquila” come sergente hanno confermato e alimentato la sua dedizione per la vita di bordo, dandogli l'opportunità di vivere il mare da una prospettiva professionale e formativa.

Si è sempre dedicato alla realizzazione e vendita di quadri ad olio, pittura su vetro, litografie e disegni realizzati a china e con l’utilizzo di tecniche diverse.

Ha partecipato a diverse mostre di pittura.

Oggi, all’età di sessantanove anni, ha scelto di rimettere l’arte al centro del suo mondo, dedicandosi al cento per cento alla pittura ad olio.

LA VISIONE ARTISTICA: METAMORFOSI ONIRICA E SURREALE

La sua ricerca attuale rappresenta il punto di rottura e, al contempo, la sintesi di una vita intera. Se l’ingegneria interpreta le leggi del mondo, la sua pittura è il luogo in cui queste leggi vengono sovvertite per dare spazio all’inconscio.

CROMATISMI D'IMPATTO : la forza dell'emozione

Il colore é pura forza espressiva. La sua tavolozza è dominata da tonalità straordinariamente vivaci e di grande impatto visivo. Non usa il colore per descrivere l'oggetto, ma per sprigionare l'energia pura dell'emozione. La scelta di colori accesi, saturi e contrastanti vuole scuotere l'osservatore, invitandolo a uscire dalla staticità del quotidiano.

LA REALTA’ TRASFORMATA

Il suo stile si muove nel territorio del surrealismo onirico. Prende frammenti di realtà e li scompone, rendendoli fluidi e visionari, trasforma la realtà attraverso gli occhi del sogno o dell'allucinazione.

L’ANCORA DEL VERO

Nonostante la deriva onirica, nelle sue opere persiste sempre un fondo di realtà. Una linea prospettica impeccabile, una figura plastica o un dettaglio materico rivelano la sua mano tecnica. Questo elemento funge da “porto sicuro” per lo spettatore: un appiglio realistico prima di lasciarsi naufragare nelle sue visioni surreali.

LA TECNICA: LA MATERIA IMPRESSA DAL PENNELLO

Un elemento distintivo del suo lavoro è la pennellata materica. Nonostante le forze dei colori, non utilizza la spatola, sceglie esclusivamente il pennello per scolpire la materia sulla tela. Questa scelta tecnica gli permette di lasciare un’impronta fisica e umana: i solchi delle setole guidano la luce e creano un dinamismo che la superfice liscia non potrebbe mai restituire. Ogni colpo di pennello è un gesto di energia che deposita spessori generosi di colore a olio, rendendo il sogno un oggetto tangibile, vivo e tridimensionale.

Il suo percorso, vissuto con l’umiltà dell’autodidatta, è consolidato da mostre collettive presso il comune di Catania e dell' hinterland catanese, un’attività espositiva che ha attraversato diverse fasi della sua vita e della sua evoluzione stilistica.

Molte opere vendute ad estimatori che hanno saputo cogliere la tensione tra il suo rigore tecnico e la sua libertà immaginativa. Accoglie con piacere opere su commissione, a patto che l’idea sia il seme e non la gabbia.

Dipinge per dare vita a una visione, ma solo se i pennelli restano liberi di muoversi senza confini o restrizioni.

BIOGRAPHY: BETWEEN THE SEA AND CALCULATION

Born on June 11, 1957 in Regalbuto (EN). He lived in Catania, and his life was a constant dialogue between scientific precision and the freedom of art. Self-taught by vocation, he grew up breathing figurative art, thanks to his parents.

Oil painting was thus a language learned at home and cultivated from childhood, maintaining itself as a parallel path throughout his professional career.

He graduated from the "Duca degli Abruzzi" Nautical Institute in Catania, earning the title of "aspirant to command merchant ships."

He subsequently earned a degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in construction, from the University of Catania and subsequently qualified as an engineer.

His passion for the sea and painting has characterized his entire life.

After working for several years as a freelancer, he obtained a teaching position in navigation and related subjects at the historic Sicilian Nautical Institutes, specifically the "Caio Duilio" Institute in Messina, the "Luigi Rizzo" Nautical Institute in Riposto, and subsequently concluded his career at the "Duca degli Abruzzi" Nautical Institute in Catania.

The years spent at these institutes shaped his mind towards rigor, perspective, and the laws of physics.

In addition to teaching, he was also entrusted with organizing events and travel, a role motivated by his aptitude for public relations and his passion for organizing groups of people to achieve a goal.

His 18-month stint aboard the corvette "Aquila" as a sergeant confirmed and nurtured his dedication to life on board, giving him the opportunity to experience the sea from a professional and educational perspective.

He has always dedicated himself to the creation and sale of oil paintings, glass paintings, lithographs, and drawings made in ink and using various techniques.

He has participated in several painting exhibitions.

Today, at the age of sixty-nine, he has chosen to put art back at the center of his world, dedicating himself entirely to oil painting.

His style moves within the realm of dreamlike surrealism. He takes fragments of reality and breaks them down, making them fluid and visionary, transforming reality through the eyes of dreams or hallucinations.

Despite the dreamlike drift, a foundation of reality always persists in his works. An impeccable perspective line, a sculptural figure, or a material detail reveal his technical skill. TECHNIQUE: MATERIAL IMPRESSED BY THE BRUSH

A distinctive element of his work is the textured brushstroke. Despite the power of his colors, he doesn't use a palette knife, choosing exclusively the brush to sculpt the material onto the canvas.
