Core
by Maria Escano
Description
Core is a meditation on presence and perception. Anchored by a central square of distressed gold leaf, the painting invites the viewer to enter a quiet space where materiality and metaphysics intersect. The luminous core, imperfect and fragmented evokes both ancient sacred objects and the fragility, of the present moment.
Framed by bold teal and black borders, the composition mimics the form of a window, a passage between inner and outer realms. The surrounding fields serve as both container and contrast, grounding the viewer while drawing attention inward. This tension between geometric and the organic, the flat and the textured, encourages contemplation of that lies beyond the visible surface.
In Core I explore themes of silence, stillness, and the transformative potential of simplicity. It is a visual offering, a quiet space in a noisy word.
