Description

"I Am as Strong as Pippi" is a powerful sculpture that addresses a woman's survival after severe sexual violence and abuse in her early years. The cast of her torso with outstretched arms symbolizes inner strength; Pippi Longstocking on her shoulder alludes to the formative phrase that sustained her. Deep wounds, cracks, and holes in the cast represent self-harm, physical abuse, and fragmented identities. Her face displays multiple dark and light personalities, connected by golden lines of the will to live. The work is both a memorial to resilience and a critique of a society and medical institutions that failed to adequately acknowledge her suffering—documented by the disappearance of her medical records.
