Overhead dream

Description

This canvas was presented at Qatar International Art Festival 2021 and it is a tribute to football, sports, art, as well as to Qatar’s efforts in organising the Fifa world cup despite today’s uncertain times. The artwork finds its inspiration in Pele’s famous ‘overhead’ or ‘bicycle’ kick. His gesture has been stylised in a dream figure lifting up from the Earth to a starry sky, symbolising the will of a country to look at the future, the wish of our world to overcome difficult moments and the ambition of football players to become stars. In a deeper sense, the canvas represents art and sports elevating the human being from the problems of everyday life by nourishing body and soul in the most noble way.
