Description

"Defenseless" embodies the lasting scars of abuse. Cast from the body of a survivor, the life-size female figure, made of plaster with a granite-like finish, stands with folded arms – her only protective posture since the childhood trauma. The hardness of granite, usually a symbol of strength, here underscores the petrification and vulnerability suffered. The gray color intensifies the coldness and rigidity. The sculpture is a powerful memorial to the consequences of abuse, a plea for support and protection for survivors, and an encouragement to raise their voices and reclaim lost security.
