Description

SILENCE OVER THE ABYSS

It can be easily stated that this panel sums up all of Rowe’s most recent production. It can be described as a symbolic abstract landscape, in which colors and shapes suggest different philosophical ideas. However, this picture does not represent a particular place, but it portraits all places and all times at once. It can be interpreted in two main ways:

A reflection on humanity as the result of the eternal conflict between social rules and personal egos, symbolized by a white veil of paint, and the wild nature of life, which is represented by a layer of black paint.

A view of life and history as something pending between good and evil, symbolized by two main colors. However, the various shades of gray suggest that this two states are often undistinguishable, and life is therefore a painful and hard experience. This interpretation is greatly inspired by great philosophers such as Nietzsche, Kirkegaard, and Schopenhauer.

Finally, in general this paint suggest restlessness, anguish, and a pessimistic view of life, seen as an experience in which man is powerless, weak and incapable of doing anything but staying in silence over the abyss of mortal existence.
