Description

Alle porte di Tergeste was inspired by the Arco di Riccardo, one of the oldest surviving traces of Roman Trieste, still standing today in the heart of the old city.

In the painting, the arch retains its historical and recognisable identity, while the space surrounding it is progressively transformed. The architecture changes in proportion and colour, the vegetation takes on imaginary forms, and the sky breaks into geometric shapes and signs.

Passing through the arch thus becomes a symbolic crossing of a threshold: from the present to the memory of the ancient city, and from reality to a Tergeste reinvented through imagination.

The painting belongs to the “Beyond Reality” (Oltre la realtà) series, in which real places and monuments become the starting point for landscapes suspended between memory, experience and personal vision.
