Biography

Franco Volpi was born in 1952 in the province of Bergamo. He studied art following a personal path, with a careful analysis of ancient and modern masters, with a predilection for works and artistic currents where colour, bold and expressive, is the pulsating part, as in Matisse.

He took part in training courses and deepened his knowledge of drawing and oil painting techniques, with particular attention to the study of the human figure and landscape. His creative path led him to combine commercial photography with his pictorial vocation.

For him, the world of photography became an opportunity to confront the thousands of nuances of the human soul, captured and narrated in his daily experiences as in a long and rich street photography reportage. A wide range of human types that will be a source of inspiration for his pictorial life, which has become increasingly active and fertile in recent years.

The artist paints the nature that moves him, but prefers portraits, fascinated by the search for the interiority of the subject.

"I think that the heart of painting is to try to instil emotions beyond the physical appearance of a subject, which, taken as a reference, is the starting point for creating impressions and emotions. I therefore find it interesting to paint what I observe not to reproduce it, but to reproduce the emotions that the sight of it instils."

Art expert Franco Bulfarini says of the artist: "... Franco Volpi, although he looks to the past, nevertheless follows and pursues his own very personal path, his is the soul of a contemporary that opens up with spontaneity to an intimate and passionate way of seeing. There are several of his works that I could define as 'atmospheric'; they are works that focus strongly on the chromatic effect...'.

Some paintings can be found in the latest issue of the series Art and Contemporary Artists. In recent years, he has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions of national and international relevance, such as the art3f International Contemporary Art Fair in Monaco, the Artist of Italy Award 2021 and the Raffaello Sanzio International Prize 2020.

The artist is also a member of the 'Artisti di Bottega' association, which is led by the artist, art expert and event organiser Franco Bulfarini.
