Leocasan Santos - contemporary painter

Starting to draw back in primary school shows that art has always been a part of me — and that early connection often shapes the way we see and express the world creatively.

That’s how I evolved, and throughout high school I attended painting and sculpture classes. However, the big “click” — the moment when my passion for oil painting truly began — happened in the following way.

Between 1960 and 1972, I lived in Mozambique — three years in Quelimane and ten in Lourenço Marques.

Since we had a large house, we rented a room to a couple who were family friends — and the wife had a hobby that fascinated me: oil painting. Mrs. Luisinha mostly painted flowers, landscapes, human figures, and so on. I was 12 years old and would spend hours watching her paint. I would quietly say to myself, “One day, I’ll do this too.” And now I do. What happiness it is to be able to fulfill a childhood dream.

Since I m retired of my job, I attended painting classes and my techic inproved greatly due to my teatcher Filipa.
