Critical Acclaim

“The sculpted material, worked with skill and soul, is wood in various natural essences and colors. Some works intuitively incorporate accents of white, harmonizing splendidly with the carved hollows and ovals reminiscent of ancestral village craftsmen. The robustness of expression is admirably tempered by details that draw attention to the work as a whole. The subjects resonate spiritually, whether ethnographic or intellectual. Vlad-Dan Perianu’s sculptural vocabulary ensures a secure, enduring communication with the viewer, constituting one of his most important artistic qualities.” – Vasile Grigore

“Perianu’s objects reflect his great love for material combinations, with wood always playing a dominant role.” – Maria Lie-Steiner

“Much more modern in artistic expression, Vlad-Dan Perianu explores, in an abstract manner, perennial biblical themes, seeking new representations and essences. His works, often painted, create an intensified plasticity through color, recalling ancient Greek sculpture where even classical statues were painted.” – Elena Olariu, 2014

“Classifiable among contemporary sculptors of the 'Neo-Byzantine' trend, Perianu focuses on religiously inspired representations, employing polychrome wood and impactful visual details to convey spiritual narratives. Angels, gates, trumpets, saints, and martyrs form a concentrated spiritual universe, with occasional ventures into secular themes like chimeras.” – Luiza Barcan, 2014
