​Description:

This work captures the mystical and historical essence of the ancient Temple of Serapis in Pozzuoli (also known as the Macellum), immortalized at the transitional moment of twilight. The canvas, painted with a mixed media that marries the fluidity of acrylic with the depth and richness of oil, features the iconic marble columns emerging from the calm waters of the central "pool" in the foreground. The water reflects the soft atmosphere of the sky and, evocatively, the artificial lights that are beginning to come on: two vivid glows, one yellow-orange and one bright green, are mirrored on the surface, creating a fascinating contrast with the millennia of history that surrounds them. In the background, beyond the perimeter of the archaeological area and a hedge of silhouetted trees, the sea horizon and the outline of a promontory can be glimpsed under a sky of hazy clouds. The color palette favors cool grays and blues for the water and sky, balanced by the warm reflections and orange hues of the surrounding historic buildings on the left and right. The work is dated and signed by the artist in the lower right corner. A piece that invites contemplation of the passing of time.
