Biography
Gildo De Bonis is an Italian contemporary painter, born in Tivoli in 1974. After many years of artistic activity in Rome, he now lives and works in Trieste.
A self-taught artist, he began painting in 2005, initially developing a figurative approach focused on landscapes, urban views and places connected with memory. In the following years, his research gradually shifted towards the human figure, introspection and eroticism, exploring a language in which colour, matter and gesture acquired increasing freedom.
After a long period of experimentation, architecture, monuments and landscapes returned to the centre of his painting, but through a profoundly transformed perspective. Real places retain their identity while their surroundings change: perspectives become freer, buildings tilt, colour creates new atmospheres, and the landscape opens up to memory and imagination.
This evolution led to “Beyond Reality” (Oltre la realtà), the artistic research that characterises his current work: a form of painting in which real places become the starting point for compositions suspended between reality, memory and a dreamlike dimension.
